Everyone! Meet Alexis Makayla!*

I got her at Burger King along with my five-piece chicken tenders meal. I have not been there in weeks so it is nice to see that they have not switched their kids' meal toys. I have not yet had the chance to collect all eight Cabbage Patch Minis!

Alexis Makayla and me are going to be best friends forever. She sits on my desk at work and brightens my life. Granted I have to switch desks every day so I will have to carry her with me but that is a small price to pay for eternal friendship and life-brightening. She is much cuter in real life than in her picture and I am sure she would say the same of me if she saw a picture of me, as I am not at all photogenic. So we share that pain. I want to get a small brush, as for a Barbie (she and I have great disdain for Barbies, but their brushes are useful), and brush her hair with it. Can you buy Barbie brushes individually, or do you have to buy a Barbie? I don't want a Barbie! Why does she not come with a hair brush all her own? Why must I put dollars in the coffers of Mattel just because my best friend needs a hair brush? It's a travesty! I must write to all the papers!

Isn't she nice? She wants to hug you. Virtual hugs!

...back to work with me.

*Why does Cabbage Patch tell you your dolls' names? I like picking my own dolls' names. I would have named her Cassie.

I didn't want to give her an identity crisis. But that's all right. She says her new nickname will be Cassie.

I officially renamed my first CPK when I was little - you could send in papers to have their names changes. I wasn't even sure how to pronounce 'Georgiana' so I changed it to 'Gloria'...

We must have been switched at birth. My family got me a Cabbage Patch doll when I was little but I refused to play with it because I thought it was hideous. :P

Why does Cabbage Patch tell you your dolls' names?

Ooh ooh, I remember this one!

Cabbage Patch tells you your Kid's name because you are adopting them! Each Kid comes with their own unique name. Perhaps not surprisingly, after a while they started running out of unique names, and created some real doozies.

However, as I recall, if you really didn't like the name your Kid came with, you could fill out the adoption papers to change it. I did that with one of mine.

I had three Cabbage Patch Kids when I was a tot: a girl, Colette Earlene, and two boys, Vallis and John. (It is probably easy to guess which one I renamed.) I also had a lesser, imitation-brand Cabbage Patch Doll, Patricia, who was sort of a poor cousin to the others. Her clothes fell apart shortly after I got her, and she didn't fit into standard Kid-wear, which meant she had to wear weird sack dresses that I sewed for her myself, while the others had fancy little theme outfits (Vallis, I remember, was a football player).

It is funny the things you remember about your childhood.

:) Cute.

I don't think I ever had a Cabbage Patch doll when I was a kid. My cousin Carolyn had a few, but all I remember about them really is that they had the name of Xavier somebody tattooed on their butt, and I thought that was a weirdly perverted place to put that. I was never very fond of Cabbage Patch dolls when I was a kid as a result, but that was obviously because I had not yet met Alexis Makayla.

CUTE. I may need to go to Burger King, though I am seriously trying to cut back on fast food. I think her nickname should be Cassie.

Cabbage... room?

Yeah, see, Tracy's mother collects Cabbage Patch Kids. And has since the '80s. They now reside in a room in the basement that is bigger than Tracy's bedroom. There's...I think about 500 of them? I'm not really sure, I try not to think about them too much. I have pictures of the room, somewhere, if you're really curious, but it doesn't convey the experience of walking into a room filled with these things. Some British tabloid or other interviewed Tracy's mom about it. I'm not even kidding.

...And as a hilarious aside to all this, in case of severe weather, guess which is the safest room in the house? Yeah. Tracy and I have had to cower in the Cabbage room a few times.

See above.

Yeah, it turns out there's stuff outside the Internet. I don't know how I never found ot about it! It's really weird :P

Oh my God Cabbage Patch Minis.

[irrational desire to own four or five]

::laughs:: Get some Burger King kids' meals and distribute the food to the homeless. It'll run you less than $20 for five, plus a warm sense of having raised some homeless people's cholesterol and sodium levels.

P.S. I love you.

Dear God, I am old. Yeah, I remember the agony of acquiring a Cabbage Patch Kids doll -- for my girlfriend's daughter.
