And as it's a slow day around these parts: here, have an icon meme that I ganked from deliriums_fish.

- Reply to this post with the word ICONS! and I will pick six of your icons
- Make a post (including this info) and talk about the icons I chose
- Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts
- This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

This is about the most inscrutable icon I have, so I guess it's good that deliriums_fish picked it. The picture is Kristin Chenoweth as G(a)linda in Wicked, but the accompanying text comes from one of those lyrics memes where you put a line of a song through a bunch of languages in Google Translator or whatever and then have people guess the original. I put in "don't make me laugh!" from Wicked's "Popular", and it gave me back "do not form to me puddle pools!" For some reason this struck me as the funniest thing ever, so I iconed it. Unfortunately the icon itself doesn't betray its backstory, and since it's the only Cheno icon I have I wind up using it whenever I'm squeeing about Cheno, which I do not-infrequently. And no one gets it. And I don't think anyone thinks it's funny either. But! Do you see those little blue stars all over the icon? That is a custom brush I made! My Photoshop skills are l33t!

This is my lesbigaytr. I made him after I read about an LGBT group that called themselves a "lesbigaytr" alliance, and, again, I thought it was like the funniest thing ever. (Incidentally, the joke was old hat to λ, which I guess means that there are probably lots of queer groups that use that name. But I never came across any.) This took me about four seconds to make, but it has turned out to be a very popular icon.

And here we have a Sim-ified Maureen Johnson, of RENT fame, wearing an ecstasy hat. The game calls it a "Noodlesoother", but the game lies, because it is neither more nor less nor other than a literal ecstasy hat. It's an aspiration reward you can get in the game and when you put it on it boosts your serotonin levels and makes you happy. Maureen in the ecstasy hat has become iconic in ways that have nothing to do with LiveJournal icons.

This is an icon that I made when I determined that anything that ever goes wrong should be blamed on the patriarchy. I've probably used it for serious posts about patriarchy-related matters once or twice, but mostly I use it when I am irritated at things like the weather, or the fact that my bootleg West Side Story birthday-present DVD hasn't arrived in the mail yet, or a bad hair day, or the fact that my fern-green Crayola crayon is worn down to half its original length and I can't get a new one because they retired it without ever making an official announcement. Also I blame the patriarchy for the fact that I don't have a book deal yet. I am certain that if I were magically transported back to one of those ancient societies where they worshipped the Mother Goddess and celebrated her by making statues of fat women out of clay, I could get a book deal there.

This is my manic-depressive icon. Touched by Fire is a book by Kay Redfield Jamison about the correlation between creativity and bipolar disorder, and I don't know that I was ever really quite sold on all her arguments, but I'm actually kind of obsessed with fire anyway. People are always a little startled when they hear this, as though they're afraid that I'm going to go torch their house now, but really I just have a tendency to stare at campfires for ages and get all spacey and mesmerized. I always want to pick up/study/caress the embers from the heart of the fire, too, and I get really genuinely sad that that's impossible.

I got this icon when I made my first permanent move out of my parents' house, which I did easily a year too late. My mom is great but she is a super-Type A personality, and I am a super-Type B personality, and in the months before I moved out of that house we had some truly epic battles, many of which were about issues that ran pretty deep. But for sheer pyrotechnics there were very few fights that we had that could match the ones we had over toast and eggs. I really liked fried eggs and I was very specific about the way I liked them, and my mom was very specific about how much she hated the way I liked them. She thought they smelled terrible, she thought I turned the heat up too high and was going to ruin her pans, she thought I was careless and was going to burn the house down, she -- oh, man, I can't even go into it all. And she was always freaking out about my weight, so the fact that I had buttered white toast with my eggs just added to the problem, and... aie. Anyway, the first day I moved out I made toast and eggs for dinner at the new apartment, and as I was doing so, it hit me: no one was going to flip out on me for it. I had automatically gotten all tensed up for battle when I started making them, and I have got to say that the moment that I realized that there was no need for that -- that I could make toast and eggs for dinner without its being a federal case -- was one of the sweetest moments of my life. When I squeed to LJ about it, hobbledehoy made me this icon in commemoration. To this day, toast and eggs are my personal symbol of independence.

Aaaaaaaaand... happy birthday, lietya!

4. Awesome story! I don't know who Kato Kaelin is, but still! XD

5. That is a pretty glorious headdress, to be sure.

6. I have never played Boggle, but I think I can guess at the principle involved.

Right, time to get explainy.

Oh God, Kato Kaelin. He was a dude who was involved in the OJ Simpson trial, I don't even remember what his testimony was or what he had to do with anything. But the reference is to how he seized on the fifteen minutes of fame the trial got him, really living it up. I remember stories about him signing girls' boobs and things, and being like "who on earth would WANT his autograph on her boobs?"
