important letter

September 23rd, 2010 (11:32 am)

Dear Universe.

Here are the things I want today:

  • A book deal
  • A pony
  • A nap
  • A lot of money
  • A Get Out of Work Free Card
  • A Broadway show
  • In my living room
  • A magical cleaning fairy
  • Or an ordinary cleaning fairy
  • An end to every bad thing anywhere in the world
  • A new list containing all those things I forgot to wish for
  • Better hair.

I'm pretty sure you owe me stuff. The existence of the modern-day Republican party alone ought to earn me at least four or five of the items on that list in compensation. (Note to all the sane people* on my flist: you, too, have earned this! Start writing!) Plus I am short, and I had to listen to a really stupid conversation on the bus today. All in all I think I deserve some payback.

So I'll be expecting this soon. Any minute now a pony with huge stacks of $100 bills and a pillow strapped to its back will come to whisk me away from work and back to the Broadway show in my living room. Right?

    Expectantly yours,

*And by this I mean, "people who don't regard Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck as the foremost political visionaries of our generation". Which I think is pretty much everyone here.

Sheesh, I'm glad you think my hair looks OK (and that you like the headband)! I'm growing it out at present and I'm horribly self-conscious about it. Right now it will only stay in a headband if it's greasy; otherwise short little tufts pop out all over the place. So... it's greasy. Also I really have to dye my roots again. All in all I feel like I have Very Bad Hair.

The stupid conversation people were right behind λ and me, so you probably couldn't hear them, but they were talking at that level that's juuust too loud to ignore if you're within a foot or so. It was all about this boy one of them had heard about who couldn't get up for school in the morning, so his family "made up some mental thing" that allowed him to get an aide to get him up and out in the morning, since he lived with his grandmother and she couldn't do it for some reason. As a girl who has her own mental thing (bipolar meds + sleep disorder) that makes it near-impossible to get up in the morning without help, I did not appreciate this. (I never appreciate the phrase "made up some mental thing," independent of anything else...) Then it was all about how, since he was living with the grandmother, his parents weren't in the picture, which obviously meant they were junkies (????) and it was their fault that the aide was a drain on the school system. They also seemed to be blaming the kid for being the son of purported junkies. They didn't shut up all ride and neither λ nor I were fond of them by the time we got to FH.

Wow, yeah, that does sound like an annoying conversation. I've been accused of having "made up some mental thing" to get out of uncomfortable situations and/or for attention myself*, and...yeah. NOT a good attitude. And I could rant for hours on the harmfully judgmental way society tends to view parents and parenthood...but you probably don't need to hear it.

*The thing I supposedly made up? Asthma. I'm not even kidding.

    Asthma of the... brain?
