A CELEBRATORY RETURN POLL

(well actually the subject matter is more desperate than celebratory BUT MAKING IT FELT CELEBRATORY ANYWAY)

Are you still here?

Yes! I am here! I am here all the time!
13(41.9%)
I'm here once every day or two, probably
7(22.6%)
I'm here occasionally
3(9.7%)
I am hardly ever here
1(3.2%)
I am not here but I have set up a bot to answer all your polls because they are just that special to me
0(0.0%)
Wherever I am is here so I'm not quite sure what you're getting at
3(9.7%)
You would have a lot more responses to this poll if LJ would let wombats get accounts, I bet
4(12.9%)

What killed LJ?

13(20.0%)
Fandom drama
0(0.0%)
SUP
6(9.2%)
Six Apart (remember them?)
7(10.8%)
Humanity's waning attention span in the smartphone era
10(15.4%)
Video, flushed with its success in killing the radio star and yearning to be a serial killer, launched itself at LJ
4(6.2%)
No seriously, YouTube actually probably had something to do with it
0(0.0%)
The fact that people like YOU just LEFT, Kylie
11(16.9%)
SUP wants you to know that LJ is actually VERY ALIVE in Russia
5(7.7%)
There is no wombat option in this question because wombats would never kill LJ
9(13.8%)

Why is the create-a-poll form so weird and confusing now?

Because you have been gone for five years, Kylie
12(46.2%)
But I don't think that's any excuse, LJ
8(30.8%)
WHAT IS THIS SHIT
6(23.1%)

Where is the option for
pirates

"Until three days ago I was never here, but now that you're back I'll be here every day." ??

That's what I pick. Of course, that's probably just me. :)

I AM STARTING A LJ REVIVAL, EVERYONE IS GOING TO COME BACK NOW BECAUSE OF ME, λ IS JUST THE BEGINNING

(and omg your Veggie Tales icon! OH ICONS)

(I might make some more icons tonight actually, I need an icon for talking about pregnancy and all of my most recent icons, added over the last few years, are just ones I got from other people. I think I need to go back to original icons.)

(Also I thought Λ made a capital λ. It doesn't.)

THEY ARE DEFINITELY ALL COMING BACK, DO IT DO IT

...or you could hold off. But having icons is SO FUN and I'm so glad I have a permanent account! *goes to make more icons*

I actually wish I'd gotten a permanent account, so I wouldn't feel vaguely guilty every year paying LJ ~$40 for all my icons etc.

But I still do it. :)

!random (yip-yips)

I am extremely, extremely lucky that I won a permanent account, because there's no way I'd have paid for one, and then all my icons would be gone by now and I would be sad.

I think I found you in the first place through my membership in a community that consisted solely of links to lj polls.

Also, you left out the waning of nekkidparts communities. Thus, xtube killed LJ.

LOL That makes sense as a way that someone would find me.

I actually never even knew LJ ever had a lot of nekkidparts communities, but it makes total sense that it would and that xtube and its ilk would play a role in its demise. Free porntubes really shook things up.

In my experience, what killed LJ was all those weird site design updates that made nearly every other person on my flist migrate to Dreamwidth. (Then a year or so later, we all started moving to Tumblr. Now Tumblr has started rolling out weird site design updates. So it goes.)

I think I missed some of the weird site design updates. All I know is it's different now than it was -- though maybe not as much as I would have expected. It still feels fundamentally like LJ. Tumblr, on the other hand, is cray. I think LJ is the best-run social media site I've ever been on. Which is actually kind of an astonishing indictment of the other ones.

I wonder how Dreamwidth is doing these days.

Dreamwidth is doing pretty great as far as I can tell! It remains solidly "like LJ if LJ had made way better decisions about which parts of its site design to improve and how", and my DW reading list is more active than my LJ friendslist by a noticeable amount.

Really? Very interesting. I thought long-form blogging had had its day. I'd say that I might make a DW and crosspost there but I don't know which of my old friends might have gone over there and what their usernames might be, and it's the old friends I miss.

DW is doing pretty great.

Also, when I log into DW I usually stay logged in afterward for longer than an hour. LJ doesn't seem to be into that. (I totally just left an anonymous comment by accident because I assumed I would still be logged in from this morning.)

LOL I figured that anonymous comment was you, but I didn't know LJ was logging people out after an hour. That is not a very good decision. Also I like your icon and the dude's expression.

Yeah, the most annoying thing about keeping up with LJ by far is that *every* *single* *time* I want to check my friendslist, I have to go to my friendslist and then manually log in. I always check "Remember me". It never seems to help.

Also I was just about to say that crossposting from Dreamwidth to Livejournal works really well, except then I checked and it turns out my last few DW posts haven't crossposted. So I guess I'll go investigate that. LJ probably broke it around the time their login process became more of a pain.

That's so weird, I use LJ daily and haven't needed to log in for months :-/

Update: Crossposting from DW to LJ seems to be functional! Maybe I changed my password and forgot to update my crosspost settings? I have no idea. Here is my adorably bewildered icon again.
